Conservation Centre, also known as the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary, is a wildlife conservation centre located in Lanchang, Pahang, about 2 hours from Kuala Lumpur. It was established in 1989 by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Malaysia to protect and conserve Asian elephants in Malaysia.
The sanctuary serves as a rescue and rehabilitation centre for wild elephants that have lost their natural habitats due to deforestation, agriculture, and human development. The centre’s Elephant Relocation Team captures and relocates these elephants from conflict areas to safer forest reserves such as Taman Negara.
The sanctuary also aims to educate the public about elephant conservation and the importance of protecting wildlife habitats. Visitors can watch educational videos, observe elephants up close, feed them fruits such as sugarcane, and see them bathing in the river during scheduled sessions.
